Woman overpowers thief with tea and sympathy
A Japanese woman and her six-month-old baby escaped unhurt from a knife-wielding thief after the mother calmed him down with a cup of tea and a chat.
一名已为人母的日本妇女以一杯茶与聊天安抚一名挥刀窃贼，该妇女及其6个月大的小婴孩最后毫发未伤地逃过一劫。
The 30-year-old Tokyo woman was walking along a corridor in her apartment building with her daughter when a man brandishing a knife demanded money, the Asahi newspaper said.

When the housewife told him she had none, the man barged into her apartment. Hoping to calm him, the woman made the thief a cup of tea, whereupon he put his knife away and began a 20-minute monologue about his life.
当这名主妇告诉对方她没有钱时，该男子竟鲁莽地闯进她的公寓。为了安抚对方，这名妇女为窃贼泡了一杯茶，男子随之把刀子放到一旁，并展开一段历时20分钟、有关他人生的长篇大论。
The woman then gave the man 10,000 yen and ran outside to call the police from a pay phone, the report said.

Police rushed to the scene, but the thief had fled and is still being sought.
